A dream come true

As Joaquim Magro, CEO, declares, « I have always worked in woodworking, since I was 13 years old, and one day I dreamed of having a company that was different than the ones I worked on. »

With this vision, Joaquim aimed to modernize production by choosing software that matched their specific needs.

At first, Magromóvel used DraftSight, drawing everything manually. It took time and often led to mistakes.

To work more efficiently, they started looking into better digital solutions.

That’s when they discovered SWOOD. Initially, it was just an extra tool, but it quickly became a key part of their process.

SWOOD helped them organize their libraries, simplify design and improve the whole production process.

Now, Magromóvel combines the best of tradition and technology, showing that big ideas can become real with the right tools.

A new era in design and manufacturing

Before using SWOOD, Marcos Silva, Manager of the design department (CPO),claims, “There were many errors initially, which meant that there was not much trust by our colleagues who received out work afterwards.”

In fact, Magromóvel explored different software options to find the right fit, but none matched their needs.

Their work is all about custom projects that don’t follow the usual rules.

Moisés Ludeña, CNC Manager, reinforces this by explaining that they had to create each program manually, item by item, which took a lot of time.

But everything has changed with SWOOD.

They were “[…] able to start developing more at the level of libraries, mainly boxes and frames. The process started to become faster.” as Marcos said.

For Moisés, the change was equally impactful. He no longer “had to waste time with machines, everything is ready. Thanks to the faster, much easier program.”

Today, the company can seamlessly move from one production to another without interruption.

Information flows smoothly between the design office and the workshop, allowing teams to focus on higher-value tasks.

A significant impact on productivity

Introducing SWOOD completely changed the way production is managed.

  • Less paper waste: as mentioned by Célia Gaspar, Founder and Chief Financial Officer, “we had to print everything, all the drawings for each section. Imagine how much paper that is”.
  • Better traceability: Marcos states that “We now have much greater ease in tracking where each part is from, with the implementation of serial numbers for each level […] anyone in the factory through the access points, can understand exactly where the piece is from, what its function is, what machining or transformation it has to undergo.
  • Greater autonomy: Marcos also recalls, “And there is no longer a need for our constant support in this sense that existed prior to SWOOD”.

As for Moisés, he states, “Today, I no longer have to waste time programming. Everything comes available on time for different machines because with just one program, we can do the planning for the  different machines we have here.

A successful transition to Industry 4.0

With this digital upgrade, Magromóvel is taking a big step toward Industry 4.0, ready to respond faster and smarter to market needs.

As noted by Célia  « CREATRIX has given us specific training in SWOOD for the people who work with us.”

Indeed, for Moisés, the training was beneficial, “especially in the context of being able to understand the work that comes before mine. This way, I can also help improve some problems that may arise to prevent them […]. Today I no longer have to waste time […] with just one program, we can do the program for the different machines we have here.”

From Marcos’ perspective “With SWOOD this process became much faster, much more fluid and we noticed that confidence has been rising in this methodology that we want to implement.”

Thus, this training has made integrating SWOOD into the design and manufacturing process easier, helping to anticipate challenges and adjust workflows.

Magromóvel’s evolution perfectly illustrates the ongoing digital transition in the woodworking industry. The company has boosted its efficiency by adopting computer-aided design and manufacturing solutions (CAD/CAM), opening new doors for innovation.

As Célia says in conclusion, « We want to be an industry 4.0 and we think this will help us. Yes, that is the objective.”
